Stored Product Pests

Description

Stored product pests are anywhere from 1/16" to 1/4" long. They can vary in color. In most cases their colors range from borwnish to black. There are two major categories of stored product pests. The first one is the moth family which would include the clothes moth and Indian meal moth. The second category is the beetle family which would include the cigarette beetle, drug store beetle and the carpet beetle.

Habitat

Stored product pests commonly feed on all types of spices, books, upholstered furniture, clothes, dried fruits and grains. Stored product pests readily penetrate packaging materials and are generally located in kitchen cabinets and pantries.

Hazards

* Contamination of food.
* Can damage clothing furniture or other stored items.
* A nuisance pest.
