Wasp
Description
Adult workers are about 3/8" - 1 3/4" long. The abdomen is usually banded with yellow and black. The wings will be folded along the side of the body. They are social insects and live in nests. The queen hibernates over winter and becomes active in late winter/early spring when the weather warms. The queen emerges to feed and start a new nest. Typically a nest of paper wasps are begun by a single queen. From sprint to midsummer nests are in the growth phase, and the larvae require large amounts of protien. By late summer, however, the colonies grow more slowly or cease growth and require large amounts of sugar to maintain the queen and workers.
Habitat
