How are Mosquitoes harmful?
Mosquitoes generally are daytime biters, but some species bite at dawn and dusk. They can travel up to 20 miles from their breeding site. In the summer, mosquitoes become major nuisances as they seek out humans for their blood meal. They usually breed in marshes, swamps, sewers and under structures. Mosquitoes are a nuisance pest capable of carrying the West Nile Virus.
How do I identify the Mosquitoes?
Mosquitoes are slender, long-legged, winged insects that are 1/8" - 1/4" long. They are unlike other members of the fly family in that their wings and bodies are covered with scales and they have long, piercing mouthparts. The larvae are aquatic and have well-developed heads, swollen and un-segmented thoraxes, and eight segmented abdomens that end in an elongated breathing tube.
