Soil Ant
Description
Ants are social insects and cover the world from the arctic to the tropics, from the rain forest to the deserts. Some say ants out-number any other class of terrestrial insect. Soil ant is a term for several species that nest in the soil and invade homes in search of food or new nesting sites. They are smaller than carpenter ants and may be brown, red or black.
Habitat
Ants nest in many areas. Some nest outside unders stones, walkways, or basement walls and then feed inside. Others nest inside walls, window sills, subflooring, along water piping, etc.
Hazards
* Ants can transmit disease to food that they come in contact with.
* A nuisance pest.
