Ironically, no battle ever took place at Battle Ground, Washington. When Klickitat Indians escaped from Fort Vancouver in 1855, a certain Captain Strong was sent to bring them back. Because he succeeded in bringing them back without bloodshed, the pioneer women honored Captain Strong with a petticoat. Now called Battle Ground (originally "Strong's Battle Ground"), this area is known for pests such as wasps, termites, and mice.
