Norway Rat
They have a coarse, shaggy, brown coat with some black hairs. They are 7-10 inches long, with a 6-8 inch tail, and weigh from 7-18 ounces. They are able to reproduce at about 2 months old, producing 3-6 litters per year, with about 8 young per litter. They are nocturnal creatures with strong senses of smell and hearing. Despite their size, they can easily crawl through 1/2 inch gaps and holes, and tend to nest in the lower levels of buildings. They eat meat, fish, and cereals, and will forage as far as 150 feet from their nest. Rats bite and are known for carrying various diseases; they are also able to cause significant structural damage.
